Description

Leaving Scotland in the early 1850s John MacBeath sailed to Nova Scotia where he began a new life. Part of the community led by the Rev. Norman McLeod, he and his wife Ann, their infant son Farquhar and Ann’s father Murdoch McLennan joined the great migration from there to NZ, sailing on the ‘Ellen Lewis’ in 1859.
They settled at Kaurihohore, near Whangarei.
